Halloween - Trick or Treat

Halloween will be here soon!  Yes, we all know about safety.  Yes, weíve heard it many times before.  But, letís be honest, when it comes to children, you can never be too careful.  Weíre a week away so take 2 minutes to read over our safety tips just as a reminder.

For Kids:

bullet

Look both ways when you cross the street, keep looking as you cross

bullet

Put down your cell phones when you have to cross the street, pay attention

bullet

Make eye contact with drivers before you cross the street

bullet

Always walk on sidewalks, but if there are none, walk on the opposite side of the street facing traffic

bullet

Carry a glow stick or flashlight with you so cars can see you

bullet

Stay in your group, do not go off on your own

bullet

Donít stop to talk to people you donít know

bullet

Take a charged cell phone with you in case you need to call your parents

bullet

Donít eat anything that looks like it may have been opened or not sealed properly

bullet

Donít eat homemade items unless you know and trust the person who made it

For Parents:

bullet

When possible put reflective tape on your childís costume

bullet

When possible, choose face paint instead of masks so vision is not obstructed

bullet

Make sure your childís costume fits correctly to avoid trips and falls

bullet

As a general rule, donít allow kids under 12 to go out without an adult

bullet

Donít rely on an older sibling to supervise a younger one.  Older children become easily distracted and might not notice their younger sibling walking off by themselves

bullet

If youíre driving your car, slow down.  Children move unpredictably when their horsing around with their friends

bullet

The most popular trick or treating hours are 5:30 Ė 9:30, so be especially aware

bullet

Put down your cell phones when youíre going around with your child, these moments are precious and you canít get them back

Halloween is a great time to get together with family and friends.  There's nothing better than spending time together trick or treating and then going home with family and friends for dinner, dessert and fun Halloween games.
